Oakland Roots SC are set to get preseason games underway in the last week of January following 2 weeks of training. Oakland Roots SC will take on teams from a variety of leagues and levels to prepare for the March 9th, USL Championship Home Opener against Indy Eleven. The preseason schedule includes games against professional sides and amateur sides from NCAA, UPSL, NPSL, USL League One, USL Championship, and MLS, highlighted by a match up with the 2023 MLS Cup Champions Columbus Crew.
“Preseason is where the foundation is laid for a successful season,” said Roots Technical Director, Jordan Ferrell. “The progression of opponents we have lined up this year gives us the balance of matches with tension and opportunities to develop our way of playing.”
Oakland Roots SC will get preseason games started on January 31st vs South Park FC of Santa Rosa and the UPSL. The full preseason schedule includes El Farolito SC of NPSL on February 3rd who Roots played in the US Open Cup in 2023. Aside from playing MLS Cup Champions Columbus Crew on February 17th, Oakland Roots SC will take on two local USL sides at Sacramento Republic FC on February 24th and Central Valley Fuego FC on February 28th. Oakland Roots SC will play Sacramento Gold FC of NPSL as well on February 7th. The Saturday before the season starts will be a final test against UC Berkeley Men’s Soccer on March 2nd.
All preseason games are closed to the General Public.
