Oakland Roots have added Mexican born, Arizona raised midfielder Jose Hernandez. Jose is a product of both the Real Salt Lake Arizona Academy and the University of California Los Angeles. Hernandez went on to play in MLS with Real Salt Lake from 2017-2018.
“Jose is someone we are very excited to add to the Roots family,” said Roots Technical Director Jordan Ferrell. “He is very humble and knows what hard work means, while also playing with tremendous drive and talent on the ball.”
During his time in Utah, Hernandez would establish himself as a regular for the teams USL side Real Monarchs. A team he previously played for as an Amatuer while in college as well. While with the Monarchs he would help them win the 2017 regular season USL title. Following his time in Salt Lake Hernandez joined LA Galaxy II in the USL where he would make 30 appearances in 2019. Most recently, Hernandez featured for Oklahoma City Energy FC in 2020.

Mi familia significa el mundo absoluto para mí. ¡Mis padres han sacrificado toda su vida para brindarle a mis hermanos y a mí un mejor hoy! Como inmigrantes de primera generación, no siempre ha sido fácil, pero nunca hemos estado solos. La familia es estar pegados los unos a los otros en las buenas y en las malas. Es amor incondicional por encima de cualquier otra cosa. Si no fuera por mi familia, no estaría donde estoy hoy. Mi familia es mi fuerza, son mi motivación, son mi todo.
La familia también va más allá de aquellos que están relacionados por sangre. Para mí, la familia es una elección. La familia está formada por aquellos que apoyan, sacrifican e invierten energía en tu bienestar. Son los que desde el principio te han aceptado por lo que eres. Familia son aquellos que han creído en ti desde el primer día.
El sueño americano nos rodea. Cada uno tiene su propia historia, su propio viaje, sus propias luchas y sus propios éxitos. En resumen, si hay algo que todos tenemos en común, es la familia. La familia es una sensación de comodidad y hogar. La familia es conocer tus raíces, cultura y comienzos. Oakland Roots es familia.
