At Anthem, we believe that food is medicine. Nutritious food is vital for health and wellness. However, food insecurity is one of the most common unmet social needs in the US. In fact, 40% of households report high levels of food insecurity. That’s why Anthem and the Oakland Roots are working together to abolish food insecurity in the East Bay.
In 2021, we participated in a drive thru food distribution event with the Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB) where we served:
- 526 cars
- 1,151 households
- 4,022 individuals
Plus, Anthem donated $80,000 to ACCFB for two delivery vans that ACCFB will use to deliver nutritious food to homebound:
- Seniors
- People who are recently discharged from the hospital
- People who are quarantined due to COVID
- New moms
- Other community members who need access to food delivery
