Oakland Roots Latest News:
Oakland Roots set to face LA Galaxy II for the fourth time this season, with Roots winning two of the season's three meetings so far. In what will be the third match of a four game home stand, Oakland has the opportunity to go level on points with Tacoma for the Pacific Divisions final playoff spot with the side from the Northwest not playing until Sunday.
Oakland Roots won the first match between the two sides 3-2 off a late Jeremy Bokila winner for the clubs first win in USL back on May 23rd. LA Galaxy II won the second meeting 3-0 as Roots were forced to play with a roster of only 13 due to league health and safety protocols. The third meeting of the year was the match that turned Oakland’s season around at Merritt College when two Oakland natives Max Ornstil and Yohannes Harish bagged goals for Roots that marked the beginning of the clubs current run of form.
Oakland Roots are coming off a win vs Tacoma Defiance that saw the team jump above Sacramento into fifth place in the Pacific Division and just three points behind Tacoma for the final playoff spot. Lindo Mfeka led the way with a breakout two goal, one assist performance in the 3-1 victory. Wal Fall also scored for his fourth time this season bringing him level with Bokila for the team lead in goals. Roots have now picked up 21 points from their last 10 games with the only loss coming away at Tampa Bay.
