Roots Face San Antonio FC in Final Match at Oakland Coliseum
After a historic two year run at the iconic Oakland Coliseum – 32 matches, 2,880 minutes, and over 219,000 fans through the gates – Roots will play their final match at the iconic venue this Saturday, October 10th at 7 PM PT when San Antonio FC comes to town for a late-season showdown.
And as fate would have it, what will be a celebration of Oakland and its fans in the final hurrah at the Coliseum will also be Roots’ most important match of the 2026 campaign so far.
With just three games remaining in the regular season, Roots currently sit in 10th place in the Western Conference, with 34 points from an 8-10-9 (W-D-L) record. But there is no bigger opportunity to close the postseason gap than Saturday will provide, with San Antonio holding the final 8th place playoff position four points ahead of Oakland at 38 from a 9-11-7 record.
Simply put — a victory would elevate Roots to within striking distance of the playoffs, while any other outcome would likely create an insurmountable gap to bridge over the remaining two matches of 2026.
For Oakland, this opportunity could not be presented at a more advantageous moment, as Roots are playing their most consistently effective soccer of the season. Having earned six results in their last seven games, Oakland is poised to make the most of the moment.
And while San Antonio has historically been the better side in the series, holding a 5-3-2 record over Oakland in the previous nine meetings between the clubs, Roots have taken all six points across the last two, including a 1-0 victory on the road in San Antonio earlier this year.
Oakland will look to continue leaning on goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh, who is in the best form of his Roots career having earned three-straight clean sheets, and becoming just the second goalkeeper in club history to do so.
Following the match, Roots will head out on the road for the remainder of the 2026 season. Their next match is scheduled for Saturday, October 17th at 5 PM PT when Roots visit Oklahoma for a road tilt versus FC Tulsa.
