Despite facing heavy pressure for the majority of the match, Oakland remained steadfast on the road Saturday night in Colorado Springs as Roots played Switchbacks FC to a 0-0 draw.
The draw earned a crucial point in the Western Conference table for the 9th place Roots as the opportunities to leap above the 8th place playoff line become fewer as the regular season nears a finish.
For the first third of the contest, the action appeared level as the backlines of both sides did good work in limiting chances from dangerous areas.
But near the 35th minute, Colorado Springs began to tilt the pitch in their favor, finding sustained pressure in Oakland’s defensive third for the rest of the first forty-five.
This pressure continued for the majority of the second half as well, with Roots finally settling back into the game and beginning to find some attacking success of their own around the 80th minute.
Despite the pressure, Roots’ backline paired with yet another stellar match from goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh kept the sheet clean for the third straight match, eventually reaching the final whistle with a point in their pocket, and goose eggs still occupying the scoreboard.
Roots will now head back to the East Bay where they are set to play their final match at the iconic Oakland Coliseum in their final home game of 2026 when they play host to visiting San Antonio FC on Saturday, October 10th at 7 PM PT.
