Roots Look to Stay Hot on the Road Versus Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC
With just four games remaining in the 2026 USL Championship season, Oakland has found a late season stride at just the right moment, and will look to extend their momentum this Saturday, October 3rd at 6 PM PT when Roots face Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on the road.
Oakland enters the match having won three of their last five matches, including back-to-back clean sheet wins in their last two contests.
With the recent success, Roots find themselves within striking distance of a playoff spot as the season reaches its finale, currently sitting in 9th place on the Western Conference table, just one spot outside of the playoff picture. With an 8-9-9 (W-D-L) record in 2026, their 33 points put them just five points behind San Antonio FC in the race for the postseason.
Colorado Springs sit on slightly firmer ground on the table, holding the 7th spot with 39 points from an 11-6-9 record. But still just sitting six points above Roots, the stakes of the match remain mile high for both clubs.
If Roots are to find success on Saturday, they will have to shake the thorn in their side that have been the Switchbacks. Holding an all-time record versus Colorado Springs of 1-1-8, and having lost seven straight matches, their losing streak versus Switchbacks represents both their longest active and longest all-time losing streak against a single opponent.
Oakland will have to show more of what they displayed in their last match versus Phoenix Rising, which to the eye was an evolution in every phase of their game, winning comfortably 3-0 and never truly looking in trouble of losing their focus, gameplan, or execution.
Following the match, Roots will return to the Oakland Coliseum for the final time when they host San Antonio FC for another crucial swing game on October 10th at 7 PM PT.
