Goapele Becomes Co-Owner of Oakland Roots and Soul Sports Club

The Oakland-Born Artist Will Perform at the Club’s October 10 Regular Season Home Finale — Which May Be the Last Time Oakland Professional Sports Is Ever Played at the Coliseum

Today, artist, musician and philanthropist Goapele has officially joined the ownership group of Oakland Roots and Soul Sports Club.

As part of joining the ownership, she will also perform at the Oakland Roots’ 2026 regular-season home finale on October 10 against San Antonio FC, a night the club is billing as a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, closing with a live Goapele performance and a fireworks show over the Coliseum, plus a halftime fashion show spotlighting Oakland designers.

“I’m always excited to be part of championing Oakland and every win for our city,” said Goapele. “Oakland Roots have built something powerful and inspiring and I’m proud to join the Team in this way and the legacy they are creating. Getting to perform at the historic Coliseum for their final game is an epic opportunity, especially on my 25th year celebrating ‘Closer to my Dreams’ . I’m looking forward for what the future holds!”

The date carries extra weight beyond the season finale. With the Oakland A’s and Raiders both already gone, and Oakland Roots having confirmed they will not return to the Coliseum in 2027, October 10 may mark the last time Oakland professional sports takes the field at the historic stadium. For a fanbase that has watched the Coliseum empty out team by team, this is a last chance to be in the building for it.

Goapele joins a growing list of Bay Area favorites in the Oakland Roots and Soul ownership group, including Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, NFL legend Marshawn Lynch, hip hop legend E-40 and global rap star G-Eazy.
