Monterey got off to a hot start as Alex Dixon slipped behind Oakland’s defense and calmly finished, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead within three minutes.
Oakland began to establish control of the game, keeping the ball in Monterey’s half and continually applying pressure throughout the first 45 minutes. Danny Barbir eventually secured the equalizing goal moments before halftime, leaving the teams level at 1-1.
Monterey regained the lead in the 64th minute when Sean Okoli scored against the run of play, putting the visitors ahead 2-1.
Oakland fought tenaciously until the very end. A bicycle kick from Neveal Hackshaw in injury time leveled the game at 2-2, earning them a come-from-behind point in this significant match.
Oakland will finish up the three game home stand, when they face San Antonio FC back in the East Bay, next Saturday September 30th at 7:00 PM.
