
Oakland and Sacramento found themselves in a stalemate for most of the first half, with each side managing one good chance apiece. For Oakland, that came in the 29th minute when Darek Formella found Joseph Nane on the counter-attack, but Nane’s shot was saved. Sacramento’s best chance came not long after as they struck the crossbar from a free kick. The two sides went into the half all square at 0-0.
Sacramento came out of the half fast, scoring a goal from Nick Ross inside 50 minutes to take a 1-0 lead. The second half began to settle as Oakland looked for an equalizer. Oakland made four substitutions in search of the equalizer but came up empty-handed as Sacramento won 1-0 and advanced to Round 4 of the U.S. Open Cup.
