Oakland was able to create a few chances early on, but it was the goalkeeping effort of Paul Blanchette that kept the game scoreless for the first 25 minutes. Just before the half-hour mark, Loudoun United was awarded a penalty for a high boot by Oakland. Zach Ryan stepped up to give the home side from Virginia a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute. Both teams battled for the final 15 minutes of the half, which ended with Loudoun in the lead by one.
Loudoun found the first big chance of the second half when Panos Armenakas scored in the 58th minute to give United a 2-0 advantage. Coach Noah Delgado made five subs in search of answers in response, but Oakland was unable to find their way back into the game as they fell to Loudoun by a score of 2-0.
