Roots have re-signed South African-born midfielder Lindo Mfeka who scored two goals and dished out a team leading four assists in 2021. The South African was on the USL Team of the Week following a two goal performance as the starting striker versus Tacoma Defiance in September. Mfeka would miss the playoff run after picking up an injury late in the season, ruling him out.
“Lindo was an important player for us in 2021” said Roots VP of Soccer Eric Yamamoto. “He has qualities that not many others have in this league and the ability to pick a pass and see an angle that helps us create chances.”
Mfeka was drafted by the San Jose Earthquakes in 2017 and spent his first season on loan in Reno after making one MLS appearance as a rookie. Mfeka would continue with Reno in 2018 and 2019 tallying 14 goals in 67 league appearances.
Oakland Roots fans can purchase their 2022 season membership now to make sure they are in Laney to see all the returning players and some new faces as Oakland pushes for another postseason run.
