
Oakland Roots announce the signing of MLS veteran forward Quincy Amarikwa ahead of their match against Sacramento Republic. Amarikwa has 11 years of MLS experience and most recently featured for Las Vegas Lights in the USL Championship.
We are excited to add Quincy to the Roots Family,” said Roots VP of Soccer Eric Yamamoto. “Not only is he a dynamic player with great experience, but his veteran presence in our locker room will continue to push the development of our young Club.”
The Bakersfield native is a UC Davis Hall Of Famer and was selected by the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. Amarikwa went on to play two seasons in San Jose before moving to the Colorado Rapids, where he would help the team win the 2010 MLS Cup. Following three seasons in Colorado, Amarikwa made stops in Toronto and Chicago before returning to the Bay Area and San Jose for four seasons. Amarikwa, spent the 2018 season with Montreal and the end of the 2019 season with DC United tallying over 200 MLS appearances.

Amarikwa has had a decorated career off the pitch as well and is known for being an industry leader in his approach to fan engagement and experience. With the launch of one of the first sketch comedy youtube shows by a pro player, #QuincyTime his Life Of A Pro Vlog, and his most recent #AskASoccerPro Show. A live video podcast helping to break down the mentality you need to accomplish your goals in a series of interviews with both pro players and active youth players.
During Amarikwa’s Major Leagues Soccer career he founded Perfect Soccer a web based platform helping soccer players, parents and coaches to accomplish their goals on and off the pitch. The company is also a strong supporter of (and collaborator with) Black Players for Change (BPC) an independent 501(c)(3) organization of over 170+ Black players, staff and coaches of MLS of which Quincy is Founder and Director Strategic Partnerships. Amarikwa successfully secured 1.8 Million in partnership with U.S. Soccer Foundation and MUSCO Lighting to remove systemic barriers that keep children of color from having access to the game. As well as BPC’s most recent partnership announcement coming together as one voice with Black Women’s Player Collective (BWPC) #TogetherThereWillBeChange
