Head Coach Jordan Ferrell on coaching the first win in Roots History:
“It means absolutely everything. I told these guys the process is what matters. This is a really important step in that process.
On the character of the team twice coming back from down a goal.
I said after the last game in Phoenix that we showed really good personality. The only thing is we didn't have a product. In this game we showed that same personality and we had the product for it. It's a great benchmark for us.
On the starts for two teenagers Mbumba and Flores as well as longest serving Oakland player Yohannes Harish.
A lot of good stuff from those three. We know they are good players, some others might not but that's a good thing for us. They did the job today and showed the depth of our squad. Young guys stepping in a game like this early on in the season is really huge for experience.”
Midfielder Danny Flores on the first goal in Roots USL Championship history:
“It's an honor to be honest. The coincidence is that I was thinking about the first goal in Roots history last night and that it would be remembered forever. Luckily it was me. I’m proud to represent my home town, the Bay Area and my family.”
Danny Flores on the character of the team:
“The thing is, from the beginning, I knew everyone of my teammates has the fight, the hunger, the belief in themselves that we can go far in the USL. We are here to prove everyone wrong and compete with the best teams in the league.”
