Oakland Roots Sports Club announced on Thursday that the club has agreed to transfer defender Edgardo Rito to Hartford Athletic, an Eastern Conference USL Championship club. In return, Oakland will receive midfielder Jeciel Cedeño and an undisclosed fee.
Jeciel Cedeño is a 23-year-old midfielder from Ecuador who scored against Oakland Roots earlier this season. He will join the team ahead of their trip to Phoenix Rising this weekend. Cedeño was a part of the New York Red Bulls Academy before joining Hartford at the start of the 2021 season, and he has been with the Connecticut side for the past two and a half seasons.
“We are excited to add Cedeño to our mix,” said Roots Technical Director Jordan Ferrell. “While we thank Rito for his time with our club, this transfer was a great fit for all parties.”
Oakland Roots’ next away game is against Phoenix on Saturday, June 10th, before they return home to host Pittsburgh on June 17th.
