Oakland Roots won their fourth match in five games thanks to Johnny Rodriguez’s fifth goal of the season.
Colorado Springs got off to a quick start, forcing a save out of Oakland’s Paul Blanchette within the first minute of the game. Colorado Springs controlled the early portions of the opening before Johnny Rodriguez struck for Oakland Roots on their first chance of the game in the 12th minute. The strike came from long range, giving Johnny Rodriguez his fifth goal of the year and providing his side with a 1-0 lead. Daniel Gomez was substituted off due to injury shortly after, prompting an early change for Oakland as Joseph Nane came on. The half ended with Oakland leading by one goal.
Oakland came out on top in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Darek Formella and Johnny Rodriguez both struck the opposite posts consecutively, but Roots were unable to find the back of the net early on. Darek Formella had the best chance of the half with a one-on-one opportunity against Christian Herrera, Colorado Springs’ goalkeeper, but Herrera made the save, keeping the home side within one goal. Lindo Mfeka had one final chance to seal the victory for Oakland, but Herrera’s save ensured the game ended 1-0 in favor of Oakland.
