Roots Head to Texas for Road Fixture Versus San Antonio FC
As has been the case for many of Roots’ recent road matches, Oakland will prepare to face the heat once again this Saturday, August 22nd as the club heads to Texas to face San Antonio FC for a 6 PM PT kickoff that is forecasted to reach nearly 100 degrees.
Oakland has now played eight straight games across all competitions without a victory, and will look to jumpstart a turnaround versus a San Antonio team that they have historically struggled against, holding a 1-3-5 (W-D-L) record in the all-time series.
But that lone win for Roots did come in their last matchup, a 2-1 victory in May of last year. Paired with the fact that Oakland has been known to produce their best matches in the most unlikely circumstances, Roots certainly have a shot to begin building a streak versus San Antonio, and get back in the win column in general.
One of the key factors in Saturday’s matchup will likely be the play of Roots’ goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh who has played stellar soccer as of late, earning save of the week honors as well as climbing the league’s all-time saves leaderboard, becoming just one of six goalkeepers in league history to reach the 400 career saves mark.
Among the goalkeepers on that short list, McIntosh has the highest career saves per 90 minutes, averaging 3.47 across his 117 league appearances.
Following the match, Roots will return home to the Oakland Coliseum for their next match versus Orange County SC on Saturday, August 29th at 5 PM PT.
