Roots Look to Get Back in Win Column at Las Vegas Lights FC
Roots will be headed to the desert this Wednesday, August 5th for a league fixture versus Las Vegas Lights FC at 7:30 PM PT.
While it has been a tough stretch for Oakland, who will be looking to avoid a sixth straight loss that would mark the longest losing streak in club history, the Lights might be the perfect opponent for the moment.
Twice this season already, Roots have defeated Las Vegas, a 2-0 road victory in the Group Stage of the Prinx Tires USL Cup in June, and a 4-2 league win in April at the Oakland Coliseum.
These two wins are part of a five-game undefeated streak versus Las Vegas that stretches back to October of 2024.
But Wednesday’s matchup will also be a battle against the elements, as the desert heat will be in full effect, with kickoff temperatures expected to be well over 100 degrees even despite the evening start time.
If Roots are to extend their winning streak versus the Lights, they will need to find a return to form in their offense, which at one point was among the league leaders in scoring, but has cooled down significantly in recent matches with Oakland putting up just one shot on target across their last two matches.
The match could be a pivotal one as the race for the playoffs begins to intensify with Oakland and Las Vegas sitting just one point apart in the Western Conference table and both currently sitting below the eighth place playoff line.
Following the match, Roots will have little time to rest as they continue their road trip to face El Paso Locomotive FC just three days later on Saturday, August 8th at 6 PM PT.
