Roots Back to Work in Pivotal Road Match at Indy Eleven
Oakland is on the road this weekend for a Sunday matinee fixture versus Indy Eleven at 2 PM PT in what will be a crucial match in Roots’ push for the postseason.
Following a 1-4 loss at home to Lexington in their last match, Roots find themselves still in 11th place in the Western Conference, but now seven points below the eighth place playoff line with 27 points from a 6-9-9 (W-D-L) record so far in 2026.
With just six regular season matches remaining, each point on the table becomes more and more valuable, and a result in Sunday’s match would go a long way in keeping their postseason hopes within reach.
Indy Eleven will enter Sunday’s contest fresh off a dominant 4-0 victory over fellow Eastern Conference foes Brooklyn FC, and are themselves sitting above the playoff line in 6th place and holding a 9-6-8 record.
But though the history between these two clubs is limited, with only two previous editions of the matchup having been played, it has been one-sided in favor of Roots. Oakland is 2-0-0 all-time versus Indy Eleven and has outscored them 5-1 in those two matches, including a 3-0 clean sheet victory last time they traveled to Indianapolis.
With the 2026 season entering its final phase, Oakland will look to Peter Wilson to continue making history for the club, and fuel a late season push to the postseason.
With a goal in Roots’ last match, Wilson tied Johnny Rodriguez at 31 for the all-time club scoring record in all competitions. He has also shown elite efficiency league-wide, averaging a goal every 131.8 minutes in his USL career, and currently holding the fourth highest strike rate in league history among players with at least 30 goals.
Oakland’s own Kendall McIntosh could make some history of his own on Sunday as well. With 411 career saves, McIntosh sits just three saves away from cracking the USL Championship’s top-5 in all-time saves.
Following Sunday’s match, Roots will return home for a nearly must-win matchup versus Western Conference foes Phoenix Rising FC at the Oakland Coliseum on Saturday, September 26th at 7 PM PT.
