Rested Roots Back in Action This Saturday at Home Versus Lexington SC

After a weekend off, Roots will return to USL Championship league play this Saturday, September 12th at the Oakland Coliseum for a 7 PM PT fixture versus visiting Lexington SC.

Oakland enters the match on the outside of the playoff picture looking in with a crucial stretch of games ahead of them as they chase the all-important eighth-place playoff line with just seven games remaining in the 2026 campaign.

Currently sitting in 11th place in the Western Conference with 27 points from a 6-9-8 (W-D-L) record thus far, Roots can make up ground quickly with two of their next three matches coming versus conference opponents hovering just above them in the race for the postseason.

Lexington could become a cornerstone result in that race, as they enter Saturday’s contest currently occupying the final playoff spot in 8th place with 31 points and a 9-4-10 record in 2026.

Saturday’s result then could either swing Roots into the driver’s seat of their destiny with the season coming quickly to its end, or force Oakland into a desperation chase through their final matches of the season.

With only limited history between the two clubs, having only met three times before, little can be gleaned from prior results to predict how the match might go. Oakland holds a 1-0-2 record in the all-time series versus Lexington, falling 0-2 in their last meeting in Kentucky earlier this year.

Roots however, defeated Lexington 3-0 in their last meeting in Oakland, and through the abbreviated history of the series, home teams have secured all three points in every match.

As the Roots tenure at the iconic Oakland Coliseum enters its twilight, perhaps the magic of Oakland can keep the trend alive and propel Roots to a much-needed victory.

Following the match, Roots will return to the road for their next match, a Sunday matinee fixture on the road at Indy Eleven at 2 PM PT on September 20th.
