Formella was born and raised in Poland and most recently featured for Sacramento Republic where he made 51 appearances, scoring 17 times for the NorCal side. One of those goals came at Laney in 2021 against Oakland when he equalized in a match Oakland would go onto win 2-1. Formella got his start professionally playing for Arka Gdynia in the Polish Second Division. In 2013, he was signed by Lech Pozan, where he made nearly 100 appearances for the Polish top flight side. His final stop before coming to the United States was with Rakow Czestochowa. During his seven seasons in Poland, Formella won the Polish First Division in 2014-15, the Polish Cup in 2016-17 and two Polish Super Cups in 2015 and 2016. In his first season with Oakland Roots, Formella made 32 appearances, contributing four goals.
